Summary

YWCA is a leading charity working with the most disadvantaged girls and women in England and Wales.

We are looking for an experienced project worker to undertake the co-ordination, development and delivery of support and programmes to young parents and parents to be to actively engage and enhance their learning opportunities. 

This is a fixed term role until 31 March 2011

Main duties

Key responsibilities include offering one-to-one support, group work, developing and delivering learning programmes (accredited and non-accredited) and to develop and maintain effective relationships with key local agencies.  The postholder will represent YWCA and Kent Young Parents Group at local strategic meetings.  This role requires flexibility to work outside regular office hours on occasion and a willingness to travel throughout the West Kent area for meetings and home visits as and when required. 

Person specification

The successful candidate must have proven experience of:

  • working with teen parents and their families and hard to reach parents
  • delivery of a range of learning programmes accredited or non-accredited
  • supporting people into education, employment and training

It is essential that candidates have:

  • knowledge of issues effecting young parents, in particular young women and how to address them
  • effective communication skills both verbal and written
  • excellent organisation skills and be IT literate
  • the ability to work effectively within a team and on their own
